Digital Check Announces Micro Adaptive SE – Check, ID Card,
Full-Page Document Scanner in a Compact Form Factor

Micro Adaptive check and document scannerNorthbrook, IL, November 1, 2018 – The SmartSource Micro Adaptive SE is a new compact and affordable scanner from Digital Check, capable of capturing checks, full-page documents, and ID cards. Based on the framework of the best-selling SmartSource Micro Elite scanner, the Micro Adaptive is a single-feed device that features extended 8.5-inch tall front and rear cameras for scanning items up to U.S. letter size (8.5” x 11”) or A4 size.

The mixed-batch capability has already proven popular among businesses processing payments and other paperwork together – including the healthcare, legal, property management, and insurance professions. Digital Check’s larger batch feed mixed-document scanner, the SmartSource Adaptive, has sold thousands of units in North America and worldwide. The Micro Adaptive aims to reach millions of other businesses that could take advantage of the same technology on a smaller scale.

“When receiving check payments, businesses often need to capture related documentation that goes along with it, such as an invoice or a purchase order,” said Rick Ooten, Digital Check vice president of product management. “The Micro Adaptive allows these larger-format documents to be captured within the same transaction, but is more affordable and has a much smaller footprint than other comparable devices. It is also able to magnetically capture MICR data, a capability that most full-page scanners lack.”

With a desktop footprint measuring less than 7 inches by 4.25 inches, the Micro Adaptive takes up less than a third as much space as its cousins in the Adaptive family. Along with the smaller form factor comes a smaller price tag, comparable to that of many single-feed scanners used for check-only remote deposit capture. The Micro Adaptive also offers an optional single-line endorser to physically print on the back of checks to confirm the item has been processed.

The new scanner uses Digital Check’s Serial Embedded, or SE, technology – incorporating a built-in CPU and memory to run the API and drivers onboard the device. The SE architecture allows much of the document processing, including MICR/OCR analysis for checks as well as image cleanup and compression for all items to take place on the scanner itself before the data is sent on to a PC. This makes for simpler integration with other programs, and improved compatibility across various operating systems.
