
Image skew in ID card scanning occurs when a card is scanned at an angle rather than straight, resulting in a tilted digital image. This issue happens most often in scanning environments where documents are fed through motor-driven scanners. Image skew involving ID cards is usually caused by improper insertion of the card by the user, but occasionally happens because of a warped or damaged card.
Issues related to a skewed image in ID card scanning can include:
- Parts of the card being outside the scannable area of the camera
- Incomplete or unverifiable security features
- Distortion of the image if the skew causes an uneven feed
- Difficulty or inability to read fine details such as microprinting or 2D barcodes
