Encrypting Magnetic Stripe Card Reader - DockXpress

If you're looking for the most secure way to process credit or debit card payments at the point of sale, Digital Check's DockXpressTM card reader goes beyond PCI compliance to provide the ultimate in data security. By using a special encrypting read head that cannot be bypassed with software, this 1/2/3 magnetic stripe reader scrambles card numbers before they even enter the POS system, leaving zero exposure to hackers and other data thieves.

Essential Information About Enabling Point-to-Point Encryption

The DockXpress accepts all standard magnetic stripe cards, and docks with the base of your CheXpress CX30 or TellerScan TS240 check scanner, resulting in almost no increase in the countertop footprint. The DockXpress also acts as a USB hub, providing two fully powered USB 2.0 ports to connect additional devices.

The energy-efficient DockXpress connects to the same 24W power supply used by the ChexPress CX30 or TellerScan TS240 (that's right — the scanner and card reader use less than 24 watts of power combined), so there are no extra power cords to run across the room. The device interfaces directly with most POS systems via a standard USB interface; there are no upgrades to make and no special software to install. The DockXpress will work with all existing and future versions of the Digital Check API.

To learn more about the DockXpress, call your Digital Check account representative, or contact the sales team by email for more information. Units are available for sale in the first quarter of 2014.

DockXpress Encrypted Card Reader - Essential Information

Before you buy a DockXpress card reader, make sure it's the right device for you! While we designed it to be as easy as possible to set up, it is not compatible with every situation or every POS system. Also, be aware that in order to use our full encryption features, read-head encryption needs to be enabled. Please see below for details.

Who Can Use the DockXpress Card Reader?

POS System compatibility:
The DockXpress uses an encrypted read head by MagTek and a standard USB 2.0 connection, so it should work with any POS system that employs USB and is compatible with MagTek devices. However, to ensure that it will work with your specific system, you should consult with the distributor or email us prior to ordering. One of our payments experts will be happy to determine compatibility and respond within 48 hours.

Operation in tandem with other devices:
In POS systems equipped to handle multiple card readers, the DockXpress can be plugged in alongside existing equipment as an additional card reader. PIN pads and other peripherals can be attached to the two powered USB ports on the back of DockXpress.

Will it work with a cash register, or just PCs?
This device was designed to run primarily in a PC-based environment. It has not been tested with cash registers, although as a standard USB card reader, compatibility is assumed for any register supporting USB 2.0. Contact us for more information about specific systems.

I own an old TellerScan or CheXpress scanner. Will the DockXpress work with it?
Yes, the DockXpress is compatible and will work with any TellerScan TS240 or CheXpress CX30, even if you purchased it years ago. (Be sure to order the model for your scanner.) Unfortunately, it is not backward compatible with the TS230, TS215, and older TellerScan models.

Will it work without a check scanner?
As the DockXpress shares the power supply from its corresponding check scanner, it is not designed nor recommended to be operate as a standalone device.

DockXpress Encryption FAQs

Enabling encryption:
By default, the DockXpress ships without encryption enabled. Your credit card processor, or their agent, must inject the network-specific encryption key to your device in order for it to use encryption in live transaction processing. Most card processors support the MagTek encryption standards used by the DockXpress, but please contact your processor in advance of purchasing to confirm. If encryption is not enabled, the DockXpress will still function as a normal card reader.

For large orders, encryption can be set up in advance before the devices ship. This may require longer lead time - contact us for details.

Can the encryption on the DockXpress be broken or bypassed?
The Triple DES encryption used by the DockXpress cannot be broken with today's computers. For a full explanation of POS encryption techniques and best practices, visit our Understanding Encryption page. Our read heads use chip-level encryption before any software is present, and cannot be attacked or circumvented without physically disassembling the device.

Would this have prevented a Target/Neiman Marcus/(insert retailer name) style attack?
Yes - applied correctly, full Point-to-Point Encryption (P2PE) would prevent software attacks like the one used in the Target data breach. Retailers still must be careful to employ data security best practices to ensure that P2PE is, in fact, secured at all points.

BranchXpress BX7200 (2)

Up until now, few hardware options have been available when it comes to back-counter branch capture and RDC high-volume production check scanning.  The BranchXpress® BX7200 was built for just the kind of mission-critical batch capture environment. Whether it is running on the back counter at a branch, in a Day 2 operation environment, in a bank vault operation, or in a high-volume RDC environment, the BX7200 has the speed, capacity, and durability to handle all that you can throw at it.

We designed the BX7200 with a high-capacity, 300-item feeder, two 300-item output pockets, and 200 document per minute performance that allows banks and corporate RDC users to replace their larger reader/sorters with a tabletop check scanner in a distributed capture environment. As banks eliminate or centralize proof departments, the BX7200 is uniquely designed to handle the necessary capacity and volume. Advanced double feed detection and MICR-based sorting systems help it run at double the wall-clock speed of typical frontline teller capture and branch capture scanners.

Teller Capture Scanner: TellerScan TS240

The TellerScan 240 is the 5th generation batch fed scanner from Digital Check. Built on the successful legacy of the TS230 line of scanners, the TS240 incorporates the features for which banks are looking in a check scanner: fast to deploy, easy to install, easy to support, and a fool proof design. This new generation of scanner features advanced 300 dpi non-contact cameras that improve CAR/LAR rates and reduce the number of rescans -- even checks with folds and wrinkles will read more accurately.

TellerScan TS240/TTP Teller Transaction Printer

The unique TS240/TTP (Teller Transaction Printer) is the first transaction printer designed to integrate with a teller scanner to minimize countertop space and deliver customer image receipts. The TS240/TTP is a standard USB, direct thermal printer that is designed to fit within a customized housing beneath the Digital Check TellerScan TS240 scanner at the teller window. This design reduces valuable counter space usage up to 50% of that required by separate scanner and printer.

The BranchXpress BX7200 is the speedy and rugged check scanner built for the bank branch back counter and for high volume corporate remote deposit capture applications.  With its high capacity, 300 item feeder, two 300 item output pockets, and 200 documents per minute performance, the BX7200 is built to allow banks and corporate RDC users to replace their larger reader sorters with a tabletop check scanner in a distributed capture environment.

Portable / Mobile RDC Scanners - SB Family

If you need to do more than just scan checks, Digital Check's Small Business line of scanners can handle checks and virtually any other type of document you may use. Combining elements of a check scanner and a traditional scanner, the TWAIN-compliant SB series offers an inexpensive way to scan checks for remote deposit while maintaining the image quality and reliability for general use.

All scanners in the SB family use Digital Check's proven Best ReadTMOCR MICR technology to deliver the accuracy required for remote deposit capture without the expense of many dedicated check scanners. The SB series of scanners are low-cost and portable, ideal for your small or mobile business.

Network Check Scanning Gateway - ConneXpress

ConneXpress, the small network appliance used to attach any Digital Check USB Scanner to your network, works with Citrix® and other remote terminal environments. Document images are captured with Digital Check scanners, compressed and securely transferred over the network to be stored on a file server or returned directly back to the calling Check21 application.

Check Jogger CJ1000
The Check Jogger 1000 is the smallest automatic check jogger in the market; yet is a very efficient jogger specifically designed for checks, giros and remittance slips. Tests show productivity improvements of approximately 20% over hand-jogging documents of mixed sizes.
